The Natural World in Fiction

I have a degree in biology, and long before I began writing novels, I was finding ways to share my fascination with the natural world. I create marine science camps for children, enjoy traveling the world, diving, sailing, and rarely pass up an opportunity to explore what was beneath the water or beyond the next shoreline.

That curiosity inevitably followed me into fiction. I notice what the ocean is doing, how weather changes a landscape, how animals behave, and what happens when people interfere with natural systems they don’t fully understand. In my stories, nature isn’t a backdrop. It can warn, conceal, threaten, protect—and sometimes know that something is wrong before the characters do.
